FAQs

Why doesn’t this website cover the Paralympic Games?

It will do soon – all the content is being produced now and will be published early in the New Year. We are working with the Paralympic national governing bodies of sport and the British Paralympic Association to bring you a guide to watching, learning about and playing all the Paralympic sports.

Who is behind The Games and Beyond?

The Games and Beyond has been created by Sport England, the government agency responsible for developing and promoting grassroots sport,  supported by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

It is produced in association with sportscotland, Sport Wales and Sport Northern Ireland, as well at the British Olympic Association, and the British Paralympic Association.

We are all working together to make sure that if you visit or watch London 2012 you have a really fantastic experience of sport – as well as encouraging you to stay involved with sport long after the Games are over, as a participant, volunteer or supporter.

How can I find out more about each sport?

If the stories, features and information on this site leave you wanting more, then there’s a number of ways to find out more about the individual sports or disciplines.

  • Get in touch with the national governing body of the sport – you can see a complete list of Olympic NGBs here
  •  Leave your email address onour registration form and tell us which sports you‘d like to hear from
  • • Follow@gamesandbeyond on Twitter to stay in touch with all the sport-by-sport news as London 2012 draws near

When do the Olympic Games take place?

The London 2012 Olympic Games begin with the Opening Ceremony on 27 July 2012. However, some preliminary men’s and women’s football matches will take place on 25 and 26 July. The Olympic Games finish with the Closing Ceremony on 12 August 2012.
You can see a full competition schedule on the London 2012 website.

When do the Paralympic Games take place?

The London 2012 Paralympic Games begin with the Opening Ceremony on 29 August 2012 and conclude with the Closing Ceremony on 9 September 2012.
You can see a full competition schedule on the London 2012 website.

Where can I find out more about the Olympic and Paralympic venues?

From Hampden Park in Glasgow to Weymouth and Portland via the Olympic Park, the London 2012 website has information on all the venues.

How do I get to the Olympic and Paralympic venues?
Thousands of visitors will come to London in the summer of 2012 so anyone travelling to or from the venues is advised to plan their route in advance. The London 2012 website has a useful tool – the London 2012 Spectator Journey Planner - to help you do this.

Can I still buy tickets for London 2012?

All the latest information is available on the London 2012 ticketing website.

What can I do with tickets I no longer want?

If you are no longer able to use your tickets, then you will have the opportunity to resell them at face value through the official London 2012 ticket resale programme in 2012.

This will be the only authorised way to sell any tickets you are unable to use, or buy tickets from people offering tickets for resale. Further details will be announced on the London 2012 ticketing website in early 2012.
