En garde!
Fencing in Great Britain has grown tremendously over the last 10 years thanks to fantastic investment from Sport England and UK Sport, as well as the hard work of dedicated administrators, coaches and volunteers.
Fencing is a sport that everybody can take up, irrespective of age, background or location.
Innovations such as the soft form of the sport, which uses foam and plastic swords, have brought more people than ever before into this fascinating sport.
There are fencing clubs everywhere - and all you need to start is a pair of trainers, a T-shirt and a tracksuit.
Fencing clubs now offer beginner sessions for both adults and children, including necessary equipment.
Check out the video below to find out just how easy it is to take up fencing.
To find your nearest club - go to the finder on the home page of the
British Fencing website or call British Fencing on 020 8741 3032, or
email them.
Sign up for the Gold Challenge
If the Olympic Games are inspiring you to play more sport, then why not raise money for charity at the same time with the Gold Challenge? Fencing is one of the 30 Olympic and Paralympic sports in which you can take part – and there are special sessions to help you get involved.
Sport Makers
Another option is to help make sport happen in your local community by encouraging your friends to take up fencing or by helping out at a fencing event. Sport Makers is a new programme that will give you the skills, knowledge and opportunities you need to get more people playing sport. By signing up, you’ll become part of the official London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sports legacy. Find out more about the scheme on the Sport Makers website.
